How difficult is static malware analysis?

I have been successful in a new role which requires investigation of new threats and doing static malware analysis. I haven’t done static malware analysis in my career, but I have done dynamic analysis using sandboxes and a small amount of reverse engineering.

Is static analysis fairly easy to pickup in general?
