Dismissed for job in final stages due to pull request to piracy software list

Submitting a my software to OSS torrent list lost got me dismissed for a job at security company
It feels wierd, and I’m not sure if that is standard practice?
Also wandering is that a base for lawsuit?
I applied for job at a startup company, at first I was declined at latest stages citing that they would prefer someone from Americans timezones.
After a month same company pings me asking me if I am open to continue hiring …
