Will HSBC UK hold onto the ID verification that I send them (e.g. passport photo) when I sign up for digital banking?

Do they hold onto it or do they discard it after my identify has been verified? If they do hold onto it, will I be able to update it at some point in the future? The passport photo I'm using is an old one and it's a bit embarrassing, so I'd rather they didn't hold onto it.
