Why did they change MiTM to On-Path?

Man-in-the-middle makes sense. No context is required because it's self-explanatory. So why did they change it to On-Path? What's that even supposed to mean?

Edit:
I guess some people call it Adversary in The Middle. Never heard that one but it does make more sense than "on path".
