Why are ethical phones so bad?

**Note:** I think this phones go in the right direction and I don't want to dog on them, I simply don't understand why are they made this way.

Thanks to this sub I found several phone brands who aim to be ethical and, on topic, privacy respectful by shipping completely de-Googled OS apart of other nice initiatives, like Pinephones and Fairphone.
