I was asked this question as part of an interview, but I was told I got it wrong based on my answer. I said that secure messaging, not limited to email, but secure file transfer, and messaging, would likely use asymmetric encryption. I described how it works, and used RSA algorithm as an example with both private and public keys. But I was asked, what specifically would governments use it for?
