When you interact with data brokers to remove your listing, does it make it worse?

I've seen options to remove your PII from these sites, which are now getting really risky with the data they post above and beyond mailing address, but I'm skeptical because many upsell on protection services, and I don't know that that doesn't just tell them they're on the right track.
