what steps should I take to see if I am getting hit with a DDOS attack?

My database logs has filled up with a bunch of entries, more than usual. What steps should I take to see if I am getting hit with a DDOS?

Would looking at the logs for common IP's be a good indicator? Then again , DDOS can come from many IP's correct?
