What should I know about private security cams?

Inspired by the thread about Ring cams. Does anyone have a good tutorial on how to set up a private camera that I can use occasionally, like checking who is at the door?

On the other hand, is there a way for me to know where private cameras in my neighbourhood are? Like, is it possible to map out all the Ring cameras in an area?
