what is more secure open source or closed source software?

I was asked this question during an interview for a soc analyst position and was curious if there is a "correct" answer to the question. Honestly seemed like a question to pick your brain to make sure you know the difference and gauge your thinking process behind the answer. But please let me know if there is actually a right answer.
