I've considered an old fashioned GPS unit, but I feel like maybe that's going a bit too far.

Is there a GPS app that won't just constantly collect my location info?

Are there ones that can download map data and not require a constant connection to the internet?

If I did end up having to go with a GPS unit, are there units that don't require any type of sign up or payment to use after buying the unit?
