What are your thoughts on Attack Surface Management?

Solution for an old problem? Media I see are External Attack Surface Management EASM or Attack Surface Management ASM. I do see a need for externel network monitoring. Cyber teams do struggle in getting good communication from IT or DevOps when dropping internet facing assets on the edge.
