Using YouTube without Gmail

I've started moving away from using any service from Google, and that includes Gmail
But that created a huge problem, and that problem is that I cant make a YouTube account without using Gmail.
And I had the choice of using my own Email while creating a Google Account, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of not using Google and their services?
