Town Facebook Page Posted Petition w Citizen addresses

I'm curious what you all think of this situation. I'm in a small town in Connecticut led by a pretty old school selectman. Recently some citizens started a petition (subject is a little convoluted, but it's something the selectman doesn't agree with and considers those who signed his opponents).
