Timeline from MFTECmd VS plaso & log2timeline

I was taught these 2 methods of creating timelines from MFT.
I am familiar with using the timeline output from MFTECmd. Is there a reason I should be using timeline from plaso & log2timeline?
Are there benefits or details there I could miss from using MFTECmd? Because it seems slightly more tedious to generate timeline using plaso & log2timeline.
