Thinking about using tailscale

I thought about using tailscale to improve security in public Hotspots. As i hve to sign in With Google or something else, I am not sure on how privacy friendly tailscale is.
What kind of data are they going to see? Is there any other user friendly tailscale like option for tunneling home (why Is the three letter word with v banned?)
