I have been noticing a trend recently, where most of the online services are harassing users for their phone numbers.


Some examples i found are: Telegram, Google, Twitter, OpenAI, WhatsApp


This is a big privacy concern, because to get a phone number you need to give away your ID (at least in my country). Meaning, they know who you are, or they have direct access to your identity.
And the phone provider knows you signed up.
