Switching away from gmail

I want to move to a more privacy focused email client than gmail, most likely proton mail or something along the lines. However, I’m a little concerned with losing access to things that are sent to my email. Besides going through and changing email preferences to my new email is there any other way I can make the switch as easy, and private, as possible?
