Startpage extension privacy

I was researching the best and most private search engine, to make the default firefox option.

DDG is my current one, but some results are subpar.

I have used Startpage in the past, but now I can't seem to find a way to make it the default search for firefox without using an extension. And I found this info regarding the extension:
