Sophos Intercept X on my IPhone?

My employer tells me that in order to meet some security certificate’s requirements, if I want to continue to access my work emails on my phone I must install antivirus software, with Sophos’ app being preferred.

Does anyone know anything about it? How does it work? Do iPhones really need AV? Could it erode any of my privacy?

Embarrassed to admit I know so little about it despite being a developer myself.
