Should I use an open source malware scanner for Windows or is Malwarebytes pretty much trustworthy?

I have been reading about how bad AV software is for your privacy and I have been thinking about this for a long time since my AV scans always come back negative, month after month, for years now so this is something that has been on my mind for a while now.
