Privacy & Freedom in the Information Age reddit.com

I now that configuring a proxy server in a browser can hide your IP from the sites you visit but can it hide the site you visit from your employer?

I presume if the employer had some software installed on your machine then yes they could track all the sites you visited but what if they only looked at network traffic? Would they see traffic to all the sites you visited through the browser with the proxy server configured?
