Privacy Advantage (or Not) of VMs

Is there any privacy advantage to using a VM to access the Internet? For example, say I am running VirtualBox and I clone a fresh install of Linux each time and set a new MAC address. Would that provide added privacy (especially from ad tracking) than just accessing the Internet directly, without the VM.
