Recently I've bought a Xiaomi phone and what seemed like a great deal turned into a nightmare.

I've always been really careful about privacy and data collection (running Linux, everything encrypted, as little closed source software as possible, recheck all authorizations on phones, etc) so I did a little bit of research before buying and discovered that Xiaomi was actually found collecting data once without warning the user in any way.
