My wife just sent back a Google voice verification code for her phone number to someone on Facebook marketplace. What just happened and what do we do now?

My wife listed an item for sale and almost immediately got a message with a phone number. She texted it and the person said they sent them a 6 digit google voice verification code to verify that the post is real and she sent it back... Didn't notice until later that the text from Google says don't share with anyone.
I don't use Google so I don't know what just happened, obviously it wasn't legit because the person immediately started …
