My father bought 4 2 TB USBs for 15 USD from China. I confirmed they are fake by analyzing the details, but I am not really concerned with that as they work as they are intended to. From a security perspective, is there anything I should be wary of?

I did not notice anything odd when plugging one in to a VM I set up. At the moment, I am doing a full format of it to see if any space clears up. What else could I do to confirm if the devices are safe or not? What incentive does the seller have? Between making the product and shipping it to the other side of the planet, I can’t imagine they are making a profit.
