MS to roll out a feature which warns users when they are typing their password into an unsafe location

Neat idea for sure, but how on earth does it work?

For example, passwords are stored as NTLM hashes in the SAM hive, not in plain text. If I start typing, or copy\\paste, my password is Windows just constantly monitoring my keystrokes and clipboard, hashing what I type, and comparing to the SAM hive? That sounds dangerous
