Memory struggle

I’m currently going to college for cybersecurity, how do you all retain information??? I’ve watched professor messers videos after looking at my class slideshows, and it’s helped some (just getting things explained a different way). But I have problems retaining what I read and it’s quite embarrassing ☹️ any tips, tricks etc would be so helpful…please and thank you!!
