Malware development - Lab

Hello everyone, I am interested to start diving into malware development.

I was thinking about building a new pc that would be dedicated solely to my experimentations and host the malware developmen/analysis lab there. That way I would minimize the possibility of something going totally wrong and harm my personal equipment. I also plan to segment my home network and put this mashine in a separate protected vlan.
