Mac Imaging Question

Hello, do any of the veterans have a suggestion of how to take a logical image of a Mac machine remotely?

I am considering the dd command to take the image and storing to an external drive.

Are there any more reconnended or "forensically sound" ways to do this?

I can not use digital collector in this situation since it's off-site.
