Looking to move from Law Enforcement DF to IR

I currently work for a UK police force and have done for over 3 years now. I have a real interest and desire to move into IR and would like to know if there are any particular areas I should research/ learn first?
I have attended the Magnet AXIOM IR course but this was quite basic.
