I fell into the bucket of tech sector layoffs in Q2 of this year. Since then I've applied to 170+ positions for a grand total of 2 job offers (both rejected because they would've been cuts in my real income). I have 15+ years of experience, a Ph.D., and my last job title was "senior manager." So what's going on? I'm sure there are multiple variables at play. But are there just no mid-career positions right now? Too many applicants …
