Is using a paid Shadowsocks/V2Ray service safe?

I was just testing a new Shadowsocks/V2Ray paid service (using ClashX) on OSX as I will be in China for work, and within hours my credit card info got stolen! (Most likely a coincidence)...

Just wanted to ask epxerts here if Shadowsocks/V2Ray is safe, in terms of privacy and confidentiality of my data?
