Is it possible to maintain both Privacy and Browsing History?

1. Your browsing/search history is useful to you - because you can use it to find things years after the fact.
2. Your browsing/search history is a treasure trove of personal/private information you probably don't want Google/Advertisers to have.
Question:
Is there any way to pull this information out of your google account and have it available in an offline application before deleting it from your google account?
