Is encrypting files with 7zip with strong password just as secure as Veracrypt?

If you want to encrypt files with sensitive data to send as email attachment, are free programs like 7zip that supports AES-256 just as secure a Veracrypt, providing you use a long enough strong password (mix of letter, numbers, uppercase, 12 characters enough?) or will files encrypted with Veracrypt still be more difficult to hack by strangers than those encrypted with 7zip?
I'm asking as Veracrypt is not very user friendly for encrypting single files that you need to send …
