Is Apple email service any good?

The enticing part with Apple is that I can get 2TB of iCloud AND *custom* email domains for only 9.99/month total.
Do they do spooky stuff with their email service? Should I avoid it? I was looking at Proton before, but I saw multiple users on this subreddit saying that Proton are not as privacy oriented as they claim to be.
Would appreciate a detailed feedback for Apple email …
