The idea is that, each camera is unique with sensor noise, minor scratches or lens smudges, and other artifacts. Those details can be used to figure out that several different pictures were taken by the same camera.
For example, if somebody posts a picture on Facebook, and a different picture under a different username on Reddit, PRNU can figure out those people used the same camera. They are likely to be the same person, or at least the …
