iCloud Advanced Data Protection allows recovery with trusted contact, but how does it work with e2e encryption?

As per Apple, the private key is stored only on user's own device. However, how does "recovery with trusted contact" works? Does that mean upon choosing this option, Apple also sends my private key to my contact?
