for example with gmail you can provide your email to a website, and add '+<whatever you want>' before the @, and emails sent to that address are forwarded to your primary email address. Or if you're using Apple then Hide My Email serves the same functionality.

I wish we could do something similar with mobile numbers. Right now I have a second SIM and I only ever give out that mobile number for online accounts/interviews/etc, but it's just more cost …
