I don't understand this reddit scraper API, why are people even opting out on this?

I'm genuinely curious about how pushshift works, it seems like people opting out or doing these "data deletions" are just putting a band-aid at the issue, plus whats the likely chance a competitor who uses pushshifts takes all the data from these dumps and refuses to use the same blacklist/keep people from opting out themselves?
