How to start classifying data at a company that has never classified data before

Hey all,

My apologies if this has been brought up before. I did a search but didn't find much.

My company has a big problem of data being impossible to track and there is interest in a DLP for reasons....However, that isn't something that you just slap into place and call it a day like my senior management thinks it is.
