How to open a FB account using a pseudonym ?

Greetings to the privacy community, I'm hoping someone here can offer some guidance.

I have just moved to a major european city and to my horror, apparently everything communal is organised on Facebook.

I've been here for a week and have already received recommendations for four or five groups. This after happily ridding myself of my account several years ago.
