How long does Google keep browsing search history for people who are NOT logged in?

Assuming someone is not logged into their Google account when they are browsing, how long does Google actually retain the individual’s search history? I’ve heard they have “server logs” for the purpose of advertising where they will keep the data for a long time, even if the history is cleared by the user, but the information is unclear.
Does anyone have any idea?
