How important is it to move to Linux OS

I care about privacy and have taken some small steps to improve my privacy online. I have been interested in moving to Linux but want to know just how much more privacy I will get by doing so and whether or not I can modify windows to be far less invasive than it is.

The PC will be used for general use and gaming.
