Curious.

I've used Veracrypt for years, but now have a Mac and it would be very convenient to switch my external disks to Encrypted APFS volumes.

Ideally, I'd like to avoid downgrading the Mac's security by installing 3rd party extensions (like MacFuse etc) to get Veracrypt etc working and instead use the native FileVault.

Some questions:

1. How does encrypted APFS volumes compare to LUKS and/or Veracrypt as far as encryption/cryptographic strength?

2. What is the maximum password length allowed …
