For those in the US and using android or GrapheneOS and have mostly friends who have iPhone only contacts, how do you deal with SMS?

My issue is that most of my contacts use iMessages, and if I have an iphone, then my messages can be encrypted and remain private. If I switch to GrapheneOS, then my messages revert to SMS and any one including my wireless carrier can see it. I’ve tried convincing people to switch to Signal, but …
