Gumtree asking for photo verification before closing account

I'm trying to close my Gumtree account. They have responded to my request:

Please can you provide (1) your registered email address on [gumtree.co.uk](https://gumtree.co.uk) and (2) a piece of photo identification. Once we have received these, we will proceed with your request.

I think this is ridiculous, as I never signed up with photo identification. How do they want to use that to close my account?

Besides, I've changed my last name to the initials, so it would not match …
