Google Pixel 6 SIM Lock

This may be the wrong spot to post, and so I apologize if it is.
Yesterday I purchased a google Pixel 6 through best buy on a verizon plan(yes yes I know), looking to run GrapheneOS on it. The device is SIM locked, however, and so I cant toggle the OEM unlock.
Is this something that will unlock once the SIM is unlocked? Or should I return the phone, pay the fee for restocking at best buy, and try to …
