Google Forcing me to Provide a Phone Number

Yesterday I created a new google account. I was logged into it on my phone. I was connected to the google play store etc.. Everything was fine.



Well today, surprise. I open the Google Play Store and it asks me to sign in. Says I was logged out due to "suspicious activity" and it asks me for a phone number to verify my identity.



But the thing is, I never provided a phone number during the account creation so how …
