FTK Imager Question - How to know if a USB is connected to a VM

Hey! So I'm in a digital forensics class and I'm working on a project where we're supposed to investigate a USB and VM. One of the things that we're supposed to answer is if the USB was connected to the VM but we're only allowed to use FTK or FTK imager. How do you know if a USB is connected? Where is it that you would find this?
